About IEI

The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers, established in 1920 with its Headquarters located in Kolkata and incorporated under Royal Charter on 9th September, 1935 by the then His Majesty of King George V. The Royal Charter endowed the Institution with the responsibility to promote the general advancement of engineering amongst its members and persons attached to the Institution. After Independence, the Institution is a “Body Corporate” protected under Article 372 of the Constitution of India. The Institution of Engineers (India) is administered by a National Council with the President as its Head.

About IEI, Odisha State Center

Odisha State Centre, IEI was established at Burla on 22nd February, 1959 with 86 Corporate Members and 245 non-corporate members. The-then Chief Minister, Odisha, Dr HarekrushnaMahatab formally inaugurated its first session at Burla on 26th July, 1959.  RaiBahadur, M S ThirumaleIyengar, Er SadanandaPadhi and Prof Bhubaneswar Behera were the founder Chairman, Honorary Secretary & Honorary Joint Secretary of the State Centre respectively. Since that memorable day, there is no looking back. State Government of Odisha was pleased to allot 1.46 acres of land to the IEI Odisha Centre on 20th August, 1966 where the foundation stone of the present building was laid by RaiBahadur  Dr A N Khosla, the then Governor of Odisha and Past-President of IEI (1948-1950) on 24th February, 1963. The building was completed and the then Governor of Odisha, Dr A N Khosla inaugurated it on 15th February, 1965. From that day, all the activities of the OSC, IEI with its four Local Centers at Angul, Berhampur, Rourkela and Sunabeda are discharged to enhance the skill and knowledge of the engineers. Presently, our State Centre is having the overall Corporate membership strength of over more than 10,000
